A quick introduction to Custom Printable Maps

Custom Printable Maps are maps which have been specifically designed for high quality print material, such as brochures, glossy magazines, information circulars, annual reports, posters, banners and other large format media, indoor or out.

From the most simple maps to specialised topic maps, from tiny flyer maps to billboard size maps, from 1 map to a multi-map series, you will find it all on offer here.

Maps supplied in flattened TIFF file format, high-res (usually 300dpi), at the required size (A5, A4, A2 etc) and in CMYK colour - so ready for immediate printing. Other file formats like PDF, GIF, PNG available on request. Specialist file format like layered PSD, EPS, CDR or AI are also available on request at an extra cost.

Ordering Printable Maps

There are a few details we will need in order to finalise your order, things like size (width x height in cm), what the map will be used for (brochure, poster etc) and information on what content you require on the map. If you are unsure of the technical details (colour, resolution, file format etc) we can liaise with your designer or agency to get the correct specifications for your project. Failing that we will simply produce the map in the most common format.

Multi-Map Series 2010 Pricing Guidelines

Prices start at R1195 ($170 | €130*) per map. For this price you can expect somthing like the 1st (Africa) and 3rd (South Africa) sample maps below at A5 to A4 in size. As the size of the map increases, as the level of detail increase and/or the scale decreases prices per map go up to R5 995 per map which is what a detailed street level map at A2+ would cost. Specialist file formats like layered PSD are available on request at an extra cost. AI on special request only.

Prices inclusive of initial design phase, professional high resolution vector based map design, supply in ready-to-use TIFF file format, CMYK or custom colour, full support via email, free minor updates and a complete post production mangement service.

Please note that there is no way that you will be able to tell the difference between a low-res web map and a high-res printable map on your screen. The difference (and what a difference it is!) can only be seen once the map has been printed. Secondly all these printable maps are A4 and larger in size and it is impossible to show you the full size maps in this sample gallery due to the file sizes involved.

Printable Map Coverage

Our most detailed focus is on Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands, and Europe, however, Custom Printable maps can be supplied for just about any major region of the world including The America's, Australasia and the Far East. If your area is not included in this list then please contact us with details of your requirements.

Proofing and delivery of your Custom Printable Maps

During the initial design phase you will receive proofs of your map(s) via email. This gives you the opportunity to make alterations and provide input. For customers in the Cape Town & London area we can supply high-quality full colour proofs to make sure that the colours and other details are correct before you commit to a mass print run. The final PDF, TIFF or JPEG file(s) can be sent to you and/or to your designer, either via email, a FTP or 'file transfer' site, or on CD-ROM.

Custom Printable Map production times

The production time depends on many things (number of maps, sizes, level of detail, special effects etc) together with the level of our current workload. Small and simple printable map orders can usually be delivered within a few days to a week. Larger and more complicated orders may have to be scheduled a few months in advance. We do not recommend nor do we particularly like last-minute jobs as there is is simply way too much room for errors which, once the map is printed, are impossible to rectify.

Additional Options for Custom Printable Maps

> Specialised colour options are available at an extra cost. Pantone® colour or duotone combinations for example.
> Printable Maps can be converted for use on websites on request. There is a surcharge of 25% of the original map cost.
